Lottery Winner Uses Earnings To Pay Off Mounting Child Support Costs
A New Jersey man who won $338 million in a Powerball Lottery drawing used his grand prize to pay off $30,000 in overdue child support payments. Pedro Quezada appeared in court on April 1st after a warrant had been issued for him for failing to keep up with his payments. Quezada won the jackpot on March 23rd and is expected to keep $152 million after taxes.
Quezada and his wife were the owners of a convenience store at the time he was declared the sole winner of the nearly $340 million dollar jackpot. An immigrant from the Dominican Republic, the 45-year old immediately sought to pay off his debts. He has five children, three of which he owed the $30,000 to. He stated that the payments had been mounting over the past four years and plans to gain full custody of the three now that the debt has been settled.
