South Texas County Arrests 34 Child Support Violators
Earlier this month, there were 34 court ordered arrests regarding child support violations by the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office of South Texas. The Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Attorney General’s Child Support Division worked together to apprehend those who had failed to make child support payments. Attorney General Greg Abbott stated that the arrests assured that youth, whom the payments are intended to support, would be provided for.
The operation, which led to the arrests, began during the early morning hours of April 9th. Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio dispatched two teams to apprehend those wanted. The AG’s Child Support Division provided logistical data used to locate the noncompliant persons.
Each person was arrested on civil charges, facing up to six months in county jail. Custodial parents whose children were owed late payments were provided with the bond payments. According to a press release, any parents who have fallen behind on payments are encouraged to contact the Child Support Division to establish payment arrangements.
